Garage Door Opener Repair in Los Angeles
When your garage door opener stops working, you are locked out of your own garage. PLL Garage Doors and Gates repairs and replaces garage door openers for homes and businesses across Los Angeles, Ventura and Orange County, with 24/7 emergency service.
We work on chain-drive, belt-drive, screw-drive and wall-mount (jackshaft) openers. Our technicians come out with a stocked truck and are trained to finish most opener repairs in a single visit, then safety-test the door before we leave.
We stand behind our work: opener repairs and installations are backed by a warranty. Ask us about the coverage for your job.

Common Garage Door Opener Problems
Door Will Not Open or Close
The opener hums or clicks but the door does not move. Common causes are a stripped drive gear, a broken trolley, a failed circuit board, or a problem with the door itself, such as a broken spring. We find the real cause before replacing parts.
Door Reverses Before It Closes
The door starts down, then goes back up, or the opener light blinks. This is usually the photo-eye safety sensors: they are dirty, knocked out of alignment, or have a damaged wire. Sometimes the force or travel limits need adjusting.
Remote or Keypad Not Working
We troubleshoot remotes, wall buttons and keypads, reprogram them, and replace them when needed. If only one remote fails, it is often the battery or programming, not the opener.
Noisy or Slow Opener
Grinding, rattling or a door that moves in jerks can come from a loose chain, worn rail parts, or a door that is out of balance and making the opener work too hard. We adjust and lubricate the door and opener together.
Opener Runs but the Door Does Not Move
Usually a disconnected trolley, a broken chain or belt, or stripped gears. Do not keep running the opener: check that the emergency release is engaged, and call us.
Power Outages and Battery Backup
California law requires battery backup on residential garage door openers installed or replaced since July 1, 2019, so you can still open the door during a power outage. We can check your backup battery and replace it if it no longer holds a charge.
Repair or Replace Your Opener?
Many opener problems are fixed with an adjustment, new sensors, a gear kit or a new circuit board. Replacement makes more sense when the opener is old, parts are no longer available, it lacks modern safety features, or repairs would cost close to a new unit. We explain both options and the price before any work starts.
Opener Installation and Replacement
When you need a new opener, we help you choose the right type for your door and how you use it:
- Belt drive: quiet, a good choice for garages under or next to bedrooms
- Chain drive: durable and budget-friendly for detached garages
- Wall-mount (jackshaft): mounts beside the door and frees up ceiling space
- Smart features: many current models can be opened and checked from your phone
Every installation includes setting the force and travel limits, aligning the safety sensors, programming your remotes and keypad, and testing auto-reverse.
Before You Call: Quick Checks
- Make sure the opener is plugged in and the outlet has power
- Check that the wall control’s lock or vacation mode is not turned on
- Look for a blinking light on the safety sensors near the floor, and wipe the lenses clean
- Replace the remote battery
If the door still will not move, leave it closed and call us. Do not try to force a heavy door by hand.

Garage Door Opener FAQs
Why does my garage door open a few inches and then stop?
The opener senses too much resistance, which usually means a broken spring, a binding track or a force setting that needs adjusting. Stop using the opener until the door is checked.
Can you fix an opener the same day?
Our trucks carry common opener parts, and we are trained to finish most repairs in a single visit. If a specific part has to be ordered, we will tell you before we start.
Do you offer emergency opener repair?
Yes. Along with our regular hours (Mon to Thu 7am to 10pm, Fri 7am to 6pm, Sat 9am to 10pm, Sun 7am to 10pm), we take emergency calls 24/7, including when a car is stuck inside.
